I was thinking of a daily beater since I now drive a 60 mile commute each day. What do you guys think of this? I had a random thought and I personally think they are cool.

Wife has one of the first delivered in the states. 170,000 miles later. it shows almost no wear to the interior, has no rust, and gets 30+ mpg and about 6000 miles to the quart of Mobil 1. It still has original shocks, clutch, exhaust and brake rotors. Everything works. The only thing I have replaced is both front wheel bearings and a couple of sets of pads. Its a perfect cheap car, I consider that assuming the oil was serviced, at 150,000 miles its barely broken in.
One kudo that I should mention is that we live in Wisconsin which has about the worst salt usage of any state. Its amazing that when you look underneath and fine only light surface rust after 12 years. Most cars in Wisconsin are scary rusty underneath at that age. There isn't undercoating or anything underneath, just paint. Whatever Honda of England did when they built that car to prevent rust is amazing.
She would like to buy something new from Honda but there is nothing compact that is interesting. She looked hard at the CRZ but it just seemed small and not special. Maybe the new small crossover, or else the new Mini though I doubt the Mini will have anywhere near the durability.

my father had one, I have essentially the SI one generation older. I love these, it would make an ideal commuter car. Parts are cheap, will easily do 30mpg or better, power is smooth and available, shifter is fun, seats are supportive but not constricting, trunk is suitable, and back seats will actually happily fit two real adults.

Thank you. I am highly considering it. What I have seen though is that people are asking too much money for a car that is 10+ yrs old. Some of them are on E36 M3 money

Agreed, the few that are out there are generally too pricy or ricey. If price matters, you might look into '04 to '06 Mazda 3's. I've heard good things about them but have never sat in one. Also, you might look at RSX's as there were probably more of them sold. And the RSX might possibly have a better driving experience. The '02 Si are not exactly refined or quiet. A RSX-S has one more gear, 40 more HP and 1500 more redline RPM ....
